TXWSW Newsletter / DiMartino Booth Talk / Women I'm Thankful For / Fortune 50 / Good Girls

Happy Tuesday:
To begin, TXWSW is hosting Texas’ very own Danielle DiMartino Booth in San Antonio and Austin next week on December 7th. We have teamed up with the CFA Society and CAIA to host Danielle on a two-city tour. These events are co-ed, so bring all your friends and colleagues out to hear her outlook for 2018. You will not want to invest without it!
In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I wanted to share a NY Times Op Ed with a title that says it all: The Women I’m Thankful For is an inspiring thank you to all the women in the #metoo movement that have had the courage to speak truth to power and hopefully begin the end of the hush hush sexual harassment culture that too many of us have had to endure. The full article can be found here.
Fortune published its annual list of the 50 Best workplaces for parents. Kudos to Deloitte and Edward Jones for topping the list. A family-friendly workplace pays dividends in the form of low turnover and employee loyalty. The full list and article may be found here.
On the subject of families, it seems when it comes to raising daughters that teaching them to be ‘good’ girls is not setting them up for success later in life especially in high-earning fields that value assertiveness, creativity and risk-taking. Being seen as a helper rather than a boss undercuts perceived competence. The article makes for fascinating reading and can be found here.
Forbes published a piece by Lauren Wesley Wilson for women of color on paving their way up the corporate ladder. Her concrete advice makes for compelling reading and can be found here.
With the end of the year upon us, the next article on conducting an effective job search on LinkedIn is a timely read. It seems rather than searching, we all need to do a better job of wordsmithing our profiles so the jobs can find us. The full article can be found here.
Lastly, our corporate partner, MM LaFleur will be hosting a pop-up boutique in Dallas next week. If your work wardrobe needs a refresh, this convenient way to shop cannot be beat – simply fill out their questionnaire before your appointment and a personal stylist will work with you at your appointed time to find what works best for you, and then will ship you what you picked out. For details please click here. Please mention TXWSW when booking your appointment!
We have some terrific events lined up for you the last month of the year and we look forward to seeing you all at an event in 2017! To learn more about our 2017 and 2018 events, please visit www.txwsw.com.
Kind regards
Christine
