Lena Motz is the founding principal of Stillwater Asset Management, LLC (“SAM”), and is the CEO and CIO of the firm. SAM is a woman-owned, alternative investment firm focused on private credit and debt opportunities. SAM applies a value investment approach to acquire, manage, and create portfolios of commercial real estate mortgages, small balance commercial loans, and commercial & industrial loans. Ms. Motz has twenty years of debt and credit experience. Prior to starting SAM, Ms. Motz was the Managing Director in charge of the commercial loan and senior living businesses at WMD Asset Management, LLC. While at WMD, Lena invested and managed over $800MM in commercial loan and senior living investments. Ms. Motz also spent over a decade with CarVal Investors as a director in the loan portfolios & structured credit group, managing over $1 billion in small balance commercial loan portfolios. During her tenure at CarVal, she was one of 24- appointees to the Cargill Women’s Council for a three-year term. Lena has a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Minnesota-Duluth where she graduated Summa Cum Laude and a Juris Doctor from William Mitchell College of Law. She is licensed (currently inactive) to practice law in the state of Minnesota. Ms. Motz also volunteers as a girls’ traveling basketball coach for the Stillwater Girls’ Basketball Association.
