Women undermining other women in the workplace is a very real issue but not one that is often addressed. A good deal of the behavior is fear-based and oftentimes that fear is justified in male-dominated fields like finance where rather than promoting women broadly, just a very few make it up the ladder. A recent Wall Street Journal article explores avenues for dealing with the problem. The full article can be found here.
On the subject of tiring behavior, it seems that the record number of women running for office have brought bullies out of the woodwork. What all these candidates have experienced is a barrage of harassment and threats with the common theme that these women just need to get a husband and return to the kitchen where they belong. The full article can be found here.
A recent Wall Street Journal article noted the dearth of women running money at hedge funds, but then took a turn into tabloids territory by calling out a woman who was a model turned marketer which was in really poor taste no matter what derogatory behavior they were trying to call out on the part of the men running hedge funds. The full article can be found here.
Finally, kudos to Esther George for finally improving diversity at the Jackson Hole conference. This year, seven out of twenty-one speakers on the conference program are women. Still, of the 125 attendees, only 24 are women, so there is still a way to go. The full article can be found here.
