A Woman's View from the Street 8/26/20

Happy Wednesday!

Coping with a pandemic or any challenge without a definitive end in sight requires resilience, but a recent Harvard Business Journal notes that without compassion, a leader who is seen as too on “top of things” can create resentment within a team. In addition to strength and resilience, kindness and empathy go a long way to creating stronger teams. The full article can be found here. If you are interested in more on this topic, please join us for our event today with Dr. Andy Keller of the Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute who will share their road map for supporting their team through the pandemic.

The next article explores how using the Greek philosophy of stoicism can be useful in this uncertain environment. It turns out that while much of life is beyond our control, humans hate uncertainty and would do just about anything to avoid it. “In one British study participants experienced greater stress when they had a 50 percent chance of receiving an electric shock than when they had a 100 percent chance. Intolerance for uncertainty puts people at greater risk for ailments such as depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder.” The Stoics philosophy can be summed by the phrase “change what you can, accept what you cannot” which is easy to say and hard to do. Ans speaking of things you can control, a recent Forbes article notes six concrete steps women leaders can take right now to be recognized while working in a remote environment. The full article can be found here.

We have scheduled both our State of the Markets and C-Suite events virtually this year. We are thrilled that Danielle DiMartino Booth and our fabulous CIOs will all be participating. We have broken the event into 2 separate sessions on different days, and you are welcome to attend one or both events. We also have some great speakers coming your way for C-Suite at a time when we all need insightful mentors. More information on the events may be found here.

Please note that we have moved our usual silent auction to Rally Up this year. We have some wonderful items and of course the proceeds go to benefit YWPN. The link to the auction items can he found here.

I would ask each of you to consider corporate sponsorship of TXWSW. Benefits include attendance at our flagship events and recognition for your firm.  And most importantly, you help us support the life-changing work of the Young Women’s Preparatory Network. To learn more about YWPN, you can find a short video here. To learn more and sponsorship, you may find our sponsor information here. Additionally, we would be happy to create a custom sponsorship for you. Please contact Bianca King at developmentdirector@txwsw.com

Kind regards

Christine
