A Woman's View from the Street 5/7/19

TXWSW, Limitless

Happy Tuesday!

Celebrating our Limitless Leaders: today we honor Becky Reeder. Becky is a Partner – Audit Investment Funds at Weaver and serves on the Texas Wall Street Women Philanthropy Committee Member and is a Young Women’s Leadership Academy (YWLA) Volunteer Coordinator. Read more about why she gives back and what future change she hopes to see in the finance industry. https://txwsw.com/volunteer-spotlight-becky-reeder-limitless-leader/

Thanks again to all our sponsors and those who attended our State of the Markets event. We wanted to share some of the wonderful photos with you all: https://txwsw.com/2019-state-of-the-markets-thank-you/  Next year’s event is April 23, 2020, so mark your calendars now!

A recent Harvard Business Review article noted that boards are overlooking qualified women – namely the chief human resource officers at large companies that have dealt with compensation, recruiting, culture and strategy their whole careers. The full article can be found here.

The next article covers the subject of likeability, a concept created by men on Madison Avenue, represents another area where women are held to a different standard. My readers know that aggression and competitiveness are encouraged in men, and yet women are punished for the same behaviors. It turns out likeability is another one of those slippery slopes. The full article can be found here.

On the subject of double standards, it turns out that even “good” fathers are only handling 35% of childcare work. It seems the “culture of fatherhood” has changed, but the division of labor, not so much. At the current rate of change, it will take 75 years for men to be shouldering 50% of the child rearing duties. The full article can be found here.

You may notice a new addition to our homepage. We have created the Limitless jewelry line to both inspire women and help us in our philanthropy mission of supporting the Young Women’s Preparatory network. Proceeds from the purchase of the Limitless charm go directly to the Young Women’s Preparatory Network. Designed for us by one of the nation’s preeminent jewelry manufacturers, this beautiful, inspirational charm comes in both silver and 14 carat gold and can be worn every day on a bracelet or necklace. Please help us support these deserving students while inspiring all the wonderful women in your life.

Kind regards

Christine
