A Woman's View from the Street 4/23/19

TXWSW, Limitless

Happy Tuesday!

From the good news file, JP Morgan just promoted two women who are now viewed as successors to CEO James Dimon. Marianne Lake, who has served as CFO since 2012 will take over all of the bank’s consumer lending business and Jennifer Piepszak will take on the CFO role. There has never been a female CEO of a major investment bank, so this will be fascinating to keep an eye on. The full article can be found here.

If you are in need of inspiration, this next article is for you. Jotaka Eaddy had held senior positions in government and non-profit organiations, but when she took on the role of VP Policy at fintech start-up LendUp, she had a serious case of imposter syndrome; she believed she just wasn’t up to the task despite her serious list of prior successes. Her journey is a must read. The full article can be found here.

My readers should be familiar with Madeline Albright’s quote: “There is a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.” Well, it seems the corollary is also true, namely, there is a special place in heaven for women who support other women! Recent research published in the Harvard Business Review notes that the most successful women had an inner circle of close female contacts. It goes without saying that both men and women need strong networks to get ahead, but “women seeking positions of executive leadership often face cultural and political hurdles that men typically do not, they benefit from an inner circle of close female contacts that can share private information about things like an organization’s attitudes toward female leaders, which helps strengthen women’s job search, interviewing, and negotiation strategies.” The full article can be found here.
