A Woman's View from the Street 12/1/20

Happy Tuesday!

We have a strong line up of events through the end of the year including one with sales coach Alex Goldfayn this week. I have followed Alex’s work for years and attended many of his webinars and it is a huge treat that he has agreed to do this for TXWSW! Whether you are in sales, looking for a job or promotion, you will learn a lot. This will be an interactive presentation so Alex will be able to address live examples. Check out the event and others on our website.

For those of you that missed the Merrie Spaeth event, she recently published an article in Forbes on how to give more effective presentations in the age of virtual meetings. Not presenting? There is also advice as to how to be an engaged listener. The full article can be found here.

A recent Bloomberg article detailed a survey of 2,000 Australian finance professionals that showed that 76% of men were offered a promotion without requesting it compared to 57% of women. “The findings provide “evidence of that culture that things come to men without asking,” said Bronwen Whiting, who worked on the survey and is a senior lecturer in applied statistics at the university. “It can’t all be on women to act differently to fix it.” The full article can be found here.

Nasdaq announced today that they would be proposing a new rule requiring companies to have at least one female board member plus one from an underrepresented minority as a requirement of listing. “Nasdaq has determined that over the past six months, more than three-quarters of its listed companies would have fallen short of the proposed requirements.” This rule, if accepted by the SEC, would go a long way to facilitating diversity on boards. The full article can be found here.

Finally, for those of you that are experiencing some level of burnout, anxiety or discontent, it seems there is a word for that that was first used in print in 1607, and it has everything to do with the effects of limited social contact on the psyche. The full article can be found here.

I would ask each of you to consider corporate sponsorship of TXWSW. Benefits include attendance at our flagship events and recognition for your firm.  And most importantly, you help us support the life-changing work of the Young Women’s Preparatory Network. To learn more about YWPN, you can find a short video here. To learn more and sponsorship, you may find our sponsor information here. Additionally, we would be happy to create a custom sponsorship for you. Please contact Bianca King at developmentdirector@txwsw.com

Kind regards

Christine
