A recent Bloomberg article detailed a survey of 2,000 Australian finance professionals that showed that 76% of men were offered a promotion without requesting it compared to 57% of women. “The findings provide “evidence of that culture that things come to men without asking,” said Bronwen Whiting, who worked on the survey and is a senior lecturer in applied statistics at the university. “It can’t all be on women to act differently to fix it.” The full article can be found here.
Nasdaq announced today that they would be proposing a new rule requiring companies to have at least one female board member plus one from an underrepresented minority as a requirement of listing. “Nasdaq has determined that over the past six months, more than three-quarters of its listed companies would have fallen short of the proposed requirements.” This rule, if accepted by the SEC, would go a long way to facilitating diversity on boards.
