TXWSW, Limitless

Happy Thursday!

Celebrating our Limitless Leaders: today we honor Kathleen Barbee. Kathleen is a Development Director at Junior Achievement and a TXWSW Fort Worth Philanthropy Committee Member. Read more about why she gives back: https://txwsw.com/volunteer-spotlight-kathleen-barbee-limitless-leader/

An article in Pensions & Investments notes that diversity is increasing in the hedge fund industry albeit at a snail’s pace. “Researcher Preqin Ltd., London, noted a slight increase in the number of women employed worldwide hedge funds in all roles to 19.3% in 2019 from 18.6% in 2017 within its data base of money management professionals.” Given the recent performance in the sector, it seems their historical approach to diversity, which was aimed at cognitive diversity rather than actual diversity, has not been working out too well. The full article can be found here.

A recent article published in Institutional Investor notes that the female analysts in the annual Institutional Investor All-America Research Team are judged not only on their stock picking ability, but also on their looks. It seems that the women analysts were penalized for having a pretty face. The full article can be found here.

Harvard Business review notes the main benefit women bring to boards, namely a tempering of the overconfidence of male CEOs thereby improving overall decision-making for the firm. The full article can be found here.
