As many of you may be looking forward to Super Bowl weekend, a recent article in Forbes notes that just 3.4% of Super Bowl ads over a ten-year period featured only female principal characters despite the fact that women make up 47% of the viewing audience. The bad news for these advertisers is that Millennials value diversity in advertising as do women, so they are out of step with today’s audience. The full article can be found here.
We are all familiar with the statistic that 48% of entry level employees are women and yet just 22% ever make it to the C-Suite. According to a recent Harvard Business Review article, part of the reason is the fact that the “old boys’ club” is alive and well. Fully 81% of women report feeling excluded from relationship-building at work and are unable to participate in after-work hours socializing which limits their access to those with power and influence The full article can be found here.
The US is one of the few developed countries without a parental leave policy, while a few large companies including Apple and Citigroup have announced programs, these programs only cover an estimated 2.4 million workers. To make matters worse, women and low-income workers are disproportionately represented in fields that offer little or no time off. Additionally, these programs are largely available to white collar workers leaving blue collar workers without any options. The full article can be found here.
