TXWSW Newsletter / Blackrock Betters Voting Guidelines / Conference Like a Pro / Stop Sabotaging Your Success

Happy Monday:
To start, kudos to Blackrock for sending letters last week to all the Russell 1000 companies with fewer than 2 women on their boards. Blackrock has also updated its proxy voting guidelines to stipulate that they expect companies to have at least 2 women on their boards. This is a great first step and it will be interesting to see of other large institutional investors follow suit. The full article can be found here.
The other industry with a dearth of women is fund management. Fewer than one in ten fund managers are women. Said another way, only 2% of assets in the open-end mutual funds are managed exclusively by women. The response has been that women opt out of the industry to have children, but a recent study notes that is not the case. The full article can be found here.
As we are now in the thick of conference season, the next article details how to work a conference like a pro – even if you are an introvert who hates crowds and networking. The full article can be found here.
Lastly, from Business Insider, a five-year study of 5,000 workers illustrates how to stop sabotaging your own success at work. It seems it is less about putting in time and more about results-oriented effort. The full article can be found here.
