The global Fortune Global 500 was released last week and a paltry 14 out of 500 companies had a woman at the helm. To put this in perspective, these 500 companies control more than $32 trillion in revenues—or one-third of the entire world’s GDP compared to the Fortune 500’s $13.7 trillion. The full article can be found here.

The dearth of women in the corner office may have something to do with the fact that when women do ascend to the corner office, they are more likely to be the target of (predominately male) activist investors. To quote: “yet to be published research by professors at Georgia State University and Arizona State University looked at 145 comparable companies in the S&P 1500 where male and female CEOs operate under similar circumstances. The data stretches back to 2003 and shows women face a 27% chance of being targeted, while men face a less-than-1% chance.” The full article can be found here.

The call for equal pay at the Women’s World Cup continues to reverberate. Several large sponsors, including Nike, Visa and Secret, are joining the fight for equal pay based on the demand they were hearing from their consumers. The question is, will their support move the needle? The full article can be found here.

You may notice a new addition to our homepage. We have created the Limitless jewelry line to both inspire women and help us in our philanthropy mission of supporting the Young Women’s Preparatory network. Proceeds from the purchase of the Limitless charm go directly to the Young Women’s Preparatory Network. Designed for us by one of the nation’s preeminent jewelry manufacturers, this beautiful, inspirational charm comes in both silver and 14 carat gold and can be worn every day on a bracelet or necklace. Please help us support these deserving students while inspiring all the wonderful women in your life.

I would ask each of you to consider corporate sponsorship of TXWSW. Benefits include attendance at our flagship events and recognition for your firm.
