Happy Monday!
We have our tenth Anniversary Celebrations coming up in August and September. Please keep an eye out for the event postings as the Board Members and I will be attending the events and would like to meet as many of you as possible. It has been a pleasure to watch this organization grow and follow the successful career trajectory of our members over the last decade. We have some new initiatives planned and are excited for the next decade!
Please note that all of our events beginning in August will be on our new membership management platform, so you will see a new system when you login to register. We hope you will find the new interface more user-friendly! Please have patience with us as we make the full transition this month! As always, you can reach us on info@txwsw.com if you need help!
We are full swing into the vacation season right now and the first article notes that in the US, the average work week in 47 hours long and the average full-time employee that gets paid vacation gets just 17 days off. The article asks the question, instead of putting a lot of time and money into those few precious weeks of vacation, what if instead we focused on making each day just a little more special? The full article can be found here.
Which brings us to the next article from the Harvard Business Review and the title says it all “You’re Never Going to Be ‘Caught Up’ at Work. Stop Feeling Guilty About It.” While guilt can act as a strong motivator, feeling shame for not getting to the bottom of your to do list can actually work against you, so the key is to practice compassion with yourself and focus on the tasks that are the most critical to your long-term goals. The full article can be found here.
One way for women to optimize their productivity at work is to stop volunteering for office housework. Volunteering for “nonpromotable tasks” can actually shift your career into low gear. While it is always good to be a team player, women are often the first to volunteer for these non-revenue generating tasks which can range from planning birthday parties to serving on low-level committees. The full article can be found here.
