Happy Thursday and Happy New Year!

I hope your new year is off to a wonderful start. We are excited for all we have in store for our members this year starting with our 10th annual State of the Markets coming up on Thursday, April 25th, 2019 in Dallas. This year we are honored to have the legendary Alice Gould and CIO of the Year TJ Carlson joining us. With the recent market turmoil, you will not want to miss this event! Sponsorship packages are available. Please reach out to Bianca King at developmentdirector@txwsw.com  to learn more.

To start, from the good news file, it seems that older women, long used to being shunted aside, are finding themselves with both real clout and power. There are more women over 50 in the US today than at any other point in history and these women are healthier, working longer and have more income than in previous generations. The full article can be found here.

The next article notes the impact quotas have had in getting women onto boards. Large companies appointed nearly 3 times as many women as men to their boards in a rush to comply with mounting pressure and in some locales, quotas. The issue is that the C-Suite is not following suit. The full article can be found here.

Finally, according to the World Economic Forum, it will take 108 years to close the global gender gap. Horrifyingly the US ranked 51st on the list out of 149 nations. It seems that “stagnation in the proportion of women in the workplace and women’s declining representation in politics, coupled with greater inequality in access to health and education, offset improvements in wage equality and the number of women in professional positions, leaving the global gender gap only slightly reduced in 2018.” The full article can be found here.

I would ask each of you to consider corporate sponsorship of TXWSW. Benefits include attendance at our flagship events and recognition for your firm. To learn more, you may find our sponsor information here. Additionally, we would be happy to create a custom sponsorship for you. Please contact Bianca King at developmentdirector@txwsw.com

Kind regards

Christine
