A Decade of Phenomenal Women featuring Nancy Shemwell

By | Phenomenal Women Series 2018 | Comments are Closed | | 24

TXWSW’s ten-year anniversary celebration continues as we feature women in senior-level positions in finance that have made a difference in the lives of their colleagues and community.

Our next honoree is Nancy J. Shemwell. Nancy is the Chief Executive Officer of entegra technologies, a cyber securities company based in Dallas, Texas.

Define career success.

“Career success is clearly a defined differently by each individual. To me it’s making sure I leave anything I take on in significantly better shape then I when I joined the team.”

How did you choose finance as your career?

“I don’t have a finance background, with a BBA in marketing and an MS in management science I began my career in sales and sales management migrating through marketing to general management and COO/CEO positions. Finance and M&A skills have evolved while meeting the challenges/opportunities within these positions.”

Share your best career advice.

“I know it’s not unique – but do what you say you will do.”

How have networking groups like Texas Wall Street Women helped your career?

“Building and maintaining your network is a lesson I’ve learned in the last ten years. Having previously worked in a large global corporation it was a hard reality to know I had few connections once I left that company. Since then I have been fortunate to be embraced by the Dallas business community especially the various women’s networking organization. I’ve gained resources, mentors and my current “gig” through these networks”

What is your advice on giving back and helping the next generation of women in finance?

“Think of yourself as a businesswoman, not a woman in business. There are still gender challenges within the workforce, but as time evolves women in the workforce is not unique. It is incumbent on us to make sure we don’t carry that bias inadvertently into the workforce.”

Do you know a phenomenal woman making a difference in finance? We encourage you to nominate your mentors, friends, and colleagues so that we can celebrate their achievements and success by sending their name, and email address to info@txwsw.com.
